MA Haque, a member of BNP Chairperson’s advisory council, died from pneumonia and other cold-related problems at a hospital in Sylhet city on Friday. He was 70.
Haque, also a former president of Sylhet district unit BNP, breathed his last at North East Medical College and Hospital in Dakkhin Surma around 10:30 am, said managing director of the hospital Dr Shahrier Hossain Chowdhury.
The BNP leader had been suffering from pneumonia, diabetes and some other diseases for the last several days. He was taken to the hospital a few days ago.
Later, he was shifted to the ICU of the hospital on Wednesday where he died on Friday.
A medical team collected his samples on Thursday for Covid-test.
MA Haque is survived by one son and one daughter and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.
Meanwhile, BNP acting chairman Tanique Rahman and secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed deep shock at his death.
In separate condolence messages, they prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed their profound sympathies to the bereaved family members.
