“Major (retd) Sinha was killed, triggering outrage across the country. Who did go to the spot? The army chief had been there, the IGP had been there…there were arrests. Are the main accused in jail?” he questioned while addressing a discussion.
Bangladesh Nagorik Odhikar Andolon arranged the programme at the Jatiya Press Club marking what they say, ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’.
The BNP leader said it will be known during the next hearing whether the jail authorities can produce them before the court. “Then where are we? Is this country independent?”
He said Bangladesh receives dead bodies from the border areas every day although there are border forces. “There’re gunshots from the other side but there’s no firing from our side…. our border force doesn’t open fire. Then why are so many arms procured from abroad?”
Gayeshwar also claimed that there is no protest although Bangladeshi citizens are killed along the border. “If so, there’s no need for keeping the border force.”
He also alleged that different important postings are made at the ‘dictate of a foreign country’.
About the killing of four national leaders on November 3, 1975, the BNP leader said Ziaur Rahman had been in confinement since the early morning of November 2. “Then Khaled Mosharraf was in power. Is it difficult to understand that the assassination took place as per the plan of Mosharraf or in connivance with Khandaker Mushtaq?”
Explaining the reason, he said Mosharraf had considered political leadership as a threat to his power.
Gayeshwar also criticised the role of Awami League leaders during the August 15, 1975 massacre, describing them as ‘coward’.
