He was buried at his family graveyard at Kochubunia village in the upazila around 6pm after the fourth namaz-e-janaza at AC Laha Pilot High School ground around 4pm.
Mozammel breathed his last around 12:45am at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) at the age of 80.
His first namaz-e-janaza was held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in the morning. Later, his body was flown to Bagerhat around 1:15pm. He was given guard of honor after the second namaz-e-janaza at Sheikh Helal Uddin Stadium.
People from all walks of life including Khulna City Corporation Mayor Talukdar Abdul Khalek, Bagerhat Awami League General Secretary and Freedom Fighter Sheikh Kamruzzaman Tuku, State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian, Bagerhat deputy commissioner Md Mamun-ur-Rashid, Superintendent of Police Pankaj Chandra Roy, freedom fighters and leaders and activists from various social and cultural organisations paid rich tributes.
Mozammel was elected MP from Bagerhat-1 and 4 constituencies in 1991, 1996, 2008, 2014 and 2018. He also served as state minister for Women and Children Affairs.
He had been the president of Awami League’s district unit since 1984.
President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury expressed deep shock at the death of the Awami League leader.
