RT-PCR labs across Bangladesh conducted 2,001,431 coronavirus tests until Monday morning and 370,132 of those (18.49 percent) turned out to be positive.
In the past 24 hours, the health authorities recorded 1,442 confirmed cases and 27 deaths, pushing the tally to 5,375. Twenty-two of them above 50. Of the total victims, 4,155 are men and 1,220 are women.
The mortality rate is 1.45 percent, according to a handout from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.
The government has recently approved antigen tests but RT-PCR method is more reliable and considered the gold standard of coronavirus tests that looks for the genetic code of the virus.
Meanwhile, 1,526 patients have recovered, taking the number of recoveries to 281,182. The recovery rate rose to 76.5 percent.
Currently, Bangladesh has 83,575 active cases.
Across the country, 14,189 people are now in isolation and 41,957 in quarantine.
In Bangladesh, the first cases were announced on March 8.
The cases reached the 300,000-mark on August 26. The first death was reported on March 18 and the death toll crossed 5,000 on Sep 22.
Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 35,070,218 with 1,034,818 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University (JHU) data.
Over 24.4 million recoveries have been recorded.
The US has recorded more than 200,000 coronavirus deaths - the highest in the world. It has also reported more than seven million cases.
US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania tested positive for coronavirus on October 1.
Meanwhile, with the second-highest caseload, India has recorded some 6.55 million infections – 75,829 in the past 24 hours – while Covid-19-related deaths have totaled 101,782.
India hopes to receive up to 500 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine by July next year to inoculate about 250 million people, health minister Harsh Vardhan said Sunday, reports CTGN.
Coronavirus cases were first reported in Wuhan, China, in late 2019.
The outbreak spread quickly across the globe and was declared a pandemic by the WHO on March 11.
