Health authorities confirmed 3,809 new cases after testing 18,099 samples in a span of 24 hours till Sunday. The infection rate was recorded 21.05 percent for the day.
Since March 18, the government said 1,738 people have died of COVID-19.
In the last 24 hours, 43 people died from the highly contagious disease with the mortality rate still hovering around 1.26 percent.
Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure at its daily health bulletin.
At present, she noted, the total infection rate against the number of total tests is 18.87 percent.
During the period, 1,409 patients recovered from the disease, taking the total number of recoveries in the country to 55,727. Against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 40.44 percent.
Among the deceased. Dr Nasima said, 31 were male and 14 were female. “Their age-based analysis says two was aged between 21 and 30, one between 31 and 40, seven were aged between 41 and 50, 13 between 51 and 60, 12 between 61 and 70, seven between 71 and 80 and another was aged between 81 and 9,” she said.

Dr Nasima said, 21 patients died in Dhaka division, 10 in Chattogram division, three in Khulna division, two in Rajshahi division, three in Sylhet division, one in Rangpur division, two in Barishal division and another in Mymensingh division.
“Thirty people died at hospitals across the country while 12 at their homes. One was declared brought dead at a hospital,” she added.
Across the country, 717 more people were taken to isolation in the last 24 hours while 461 released. Currently, 14,523 people are in isolation.
During the period, another 3,090 people were home and institutionally quarantined while 2,405 released.
At present, 64,598 people are quarantined across the country.
