He made the comment shortly after AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader announced his name at a press conference at the party president’s Dhanmondi political office.
“I’ll work to ensure benefits of DSCC residents if they elect me,” said Taposh. The Dhaka-10 lawmaker resigned from Parliament earlier in the day after AL nominated him.
Taposh said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working to build a developed Bangladesh. “A developed capital is needed for this purpose. So, I’ve to grab the opportunity,” he told reporters.
Taposh said he will formulate a master plan for the development of the city in line with Vision 2041.
“I have decided to offer a developed capital by reducing negligence towards Old Dhaka dwellers,” he said.
AL Local Government Nomination Board met at Ganobhaban on Saturday evening with Prime Minister and party President Sheikh Hasina in the chair to pick ruling party contestants for the Dhaka city polls slated for January 30. Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) incumbent Mayor M Atiqul Islam and Taposh were chosen.
Taposh said he was inspired by former DNCC mayor Annisul Huq and sought cooperation from everyone. “I hope the people will keep faith in me and give me a chance to serve them,” he said.
