The ICC Men's ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 in India has unveiled its fixtures, along with the ten designated venues for the highly anticipated tournament. On October 5, the Cricket World Cup will begin with an exciting clash between England and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. India, the proud hosts of the tournament, will begin their campaign on October 8 in Chennai, where they face the mighty Australia, a team that has clinched the World Cup title five times in the past.

ICC World Cup 2023 Teams

The upcoming World Cup, similar to its previous edition, will feature ten teams. The primary pathway for qualification is the 2020–2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League tournament. From the thirteen participating teams in the Super League, the top seven teams, in addition to the host nation India, have secured their spots in this World Cup. Meanwhile, the remaining five teams, alongside five associate sides, are currently competing in the 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifier, where two teams will ultimately advance to the final tournament.

From the qualification round, Sri Lanka has secured its place as the ninth team, and we will know the remaining team by next week.

So, the eight qualified teams are Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and South Africa.

ICC World Cup 2023 Venues

The tournament will take place in 10 stadiums located across 10 different cities in India. The first semi-final will be held at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, while the second semi-final will take place at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The final match is set to be hosted by Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Narendra Modi Stadium

Narendra Modi Stadium, located in Ahmedabad, India, is a magnificent cricket stadium. With a seating capacity of 132,000 spectators, it is the largest cricket stadium in the world. Five matches will be played here, including the final.

M. Chinnaswamy Stadium

M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, located in the bustling city of Bengaluru, is surrounded by the charming Cubbon Park, Queen's Road, Cubbon, and the vibrant MG Road. With a seating capacity of 40,000, this stadium has stood for over five decades as a central hub for Test cricket, One Day Internationals (ODI), Twenty20 Internationals (T20i), and other First-class cricket matches. It will host five World Cup matches as well.

M. A. Chidambaram Stadium

The Chepauk Stadium, officially known as Muthiah Annamalai Chidambaram Stadium, is a historic cricket venue situated in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Founded in 1916, it holds the distinction of being the second oldest cricket stadium in the country, following Kolkata's Eden Gardens. With a 50,000 capacity, this stadium will host five matches.

Arun Jaitley Stadium

The Arun Jaitley Stadium, owned and operated by the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), is a cricket stadium situated on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg in New Delhi. Originally established in 1883 as the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, it derives its name from the nearby Kotla Fort. As the second oldest operational international cricket stadium in India, after Kolkata's Eden Gardens, it holds a significant place in the country's cricketing heritage. It has a 41,842 capacity and will host five matches.

HPCA Stadium

The HPCA Stadium, short for Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, is a stunning and scenic cricket venue situated in the city of Dharamshala in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, India. With its attractive surroundings, the stadium offers a unique and fascinating setting for cricket matches, adding to its allure and charm. At a time, 23,000 people can enjoy a cricket match here. Five World Cup Matches will be played here.

Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium

The Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, commonly referred to as Hyderabad Cricket Stadium, is a renowned cricket venue located in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. Situated in the eastern suburb of Uppal, it spans 15 acres of land and can accommodate a maximum of 55,000 spectators. Unlike other stadiums of this World Cup, this stadium will host only three matches.

Eden Gardens

The Eden Gardens, located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, is a historic cricket ground. Established in 1864, it holds the distinction of being the oldest cricket stadium in India and the second-largest in the country, as well as the third-largest in the world. With a current capacity of 66,000, Eden Gardens has witnessed numerous memorable cricketing moments throughout its illustrious history.

BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium

With a seating capacity of 50,000, this arena proudly stands as the fifth-largest international cricket stadium in India. Formerly known as the "Ekana Cricket Stadium," its name holds deep meaning and symbolism. "Ekana," derived from Sanskrit, signifies "one" or "unity," reflecting the spirit of togetherness and harmony fostered within its premises.

Wankhede Stadium

The stadium is owned and operated by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), and it serves as the home ground for the Mumbai Indians cricket team. It not only hosts cricket matches but also accommodates the headquarters of MCA, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and the Indian Premier League (IPL). The stadium acts as a hub for cricket administration and a prominent venue for cricketing events in India. It has 32,000 seating capacity.

Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium

With its modern infrastructure and a seating capacity of around 37,406, it has hosted various domestic and international cricket matches. The stadium is a testimony to Maharashtra's passion for cricket and has become a cherished sporting landmark in the region.

Final Words

Following the completion of the group stage on November 12, the first semi-final is set to take place on November 15, in Mumbai. The second semi-final of ICC World Cup 2023 will then follow the next day in Kolkata. Both matches will have a reserve day allocated. The much-awaited final will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19, with November 20 designated as the reserve day. All three knockout fixtures will be day-night encounters, starting at 2:30 PM Bangladesh local time.
