Yonex-Sunrise International Badminton Tournament begins Friday
The Yonex-Sunrise Bangladesh Junior and Senior International Badminton Tournament 2024 is set to kick off at the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium in Dhaka on Friday.
The Junior Series will take place from December 13 to 16, while the Senior Series is scheduled for December 17 to 21.
Leading shuttlers from 19 countries will compete in the tournaments, which are being organised by the Bangladesh Badminton Federation (BBF).
BBF Acting President Quamrunnahar Dana shared details of the event at a press conference on Wednesday.
A total of 114 players from India, Indonesia, and host nation Bangladesh will compete in the Junior Tournament.

Meanwhile, the Senior Tournament will see 228 participants from 19 countries, including India, Thailand, Myanmar, Canada, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Japan, the Maldives, England, Ukraine, Italy, Finland, Bulgaria, Uganda, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Singapore.
Both tournaments will feature five events each for junior and senior categories.

Scholastica, Rajuk, Shaheed Smrity win HSBC-Mayor's Cup School Badminton titles
Scholastica and Shaheed Police Smrity College won the titles of the HSBC-Mayor's Cup School Badminton 2023 in the boys' and girls' singles game and Rajuk Uttara Model College won the champion's title in the boys' and girls' doubles matches Saturday after a three-day competition.
The tournament, held at Banani Kamal Ataturk Playground in the capital, saw the participation of badminton players of grades 9-12 from 19 schools and colleges in the city.
At the prize-giving ceremony, Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam said: "Educational institutions must place equal importance on sports and culture along with studies. I'd like to thank HSBC for the initiative."
HSBC Bangladesh CEO Md Mahbub ur Rahman said: "With the participation of 108 young players from 19 schools, this three-day tournament is reflective of the families' and thereby the society's commitment towards healthy living, physical wellness and community engagement."
"I am sure these budding young athletes will use this platform to showcase their skills and enthusiasm to open up a world of opportunity in the coming days."

Yonex International Badminton: 3 Bangladesh pairs reach men's doubles pre-quarterfinals
Three Bangladesh pairs reached the men's doubles pre-quarterfinals of the Yonex-Sunrise Bangladesh International (Badminton) Challenge 2022 beating their rivals in the round of 32 at the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium Thursday.
National player Rahat Ul Nayeem paired with Md Mizanoor Rahman to beat Kanjanakeereewong and Vichayapong Laotherdpong Narueset of Thailand by 21-18, 21-17 points.
Also, Bangladeshi pair Md Nazmul Islam and Md Nishan Uddin beat their Indian rivals Umang Kaushik and Bhawesh Pandey by 21-16, 21-19 points.

Another Bangladeshi pair Abdul Hamid Lukman and Gourav Singha eliminated India's Shubham Bhatt and Sumit Sharma by 21-10, 21-17 points.

BSPA Sports: Sajjad emerges singles champion in Badminton
Sajjad Hossain Mukul emerged boys singles champion in badminton competition of Walton-BSPA Sports Carnival beating Shamim Hasan in the final at the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Wooden Floor Gymnasium here on Wednesday.
In the doubles, Shamim Hasan pairing Mahmudun Nabi Chanchal clinched the title beating Arafat Daria and Kabirul Islam partner.
Swimming, Carom, Call Bridge and Ludo (women's) competitions will be held on the 5th day of the meet on Thursday.

37th National Badminton Championship begins
The 37th National Badminton Championship, organized by Bangladesh Badminton Federation (BBF), began on Sunday at the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium in the capital.State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel, MP inaugurated the meet as the chief guest while secretary of the Youth and Sports Ministry Mesbah Uddin was also present as the special guest at the opening ceremony, chaired by BBF president and Information Commissioner Dr Abdul Malek.

Int’l Badminton: Bangladesh clinches men’s, women’s, mixed doubles titles
Bangladesh clinched the men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles titles of the Yonex-Sunrise Bangladesh Junior Int’l (Badminton) Series that concluded on Thursday at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium in the capital.
In the mixed doubles, Nazmul Islam Joy and Urmi Akter pair clinchéd the event’s title beating Akib Solaiman and Nasima Khatun by 21-18, 21-14 points in all Bangladesh finals.
In the men’s doubles, Bangladesh pair Sigbat Ullah and Gourab Singha, lifted the event’s crown beating their compatriot Nazmul Islam Joy and Babu Mohammad Russell by 21-28-21-15 points in the final.
Earlier on Wednesday, Urmi Akter and Smrity Rajbongshi partner of Bangladesh won the women’s doubles title beating Farhan Binte Amdad and Nasima Khatun pair by 21-09,18-21-21-12 points, also in all Bangladesh final.
In the women’s singles final of all Indonesia affairs, Bilkis Parsista emerged champions beating Rujana by 21-14, 21-13 points.
In the men’s singles final, also of all Indonesia finals, Alvi Farhan emerged champion defeating Iqbal Dayez Shaiputra by 21-19, 18-21, 21-13 points.
Managing Director of the China-Bangla Ceramics and a former member of Parliament Sirajul Islam Mollah was the chief guest in the day’s final and later he handed over the prizes.
The prize distribution ceremony was chaired by President of Bangladesh Badminton Federation (BBF) Dr. Abdul Malek.
