Anti-Modi protest: 20 Chatra Odhikar Parishad men get bail
A Dhaka court on Sunday granted bail to 20 members of Chatra Odhikar Parishad who were held for violence during a protest against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangladesh in last March.
Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge KM Imrul Kayes passed the bail order during a virtual hearing.
The accused are- Md Younus, Najmul Hasan, Nahidul Tareque, MD Nayeen, Asaduzzaman, Azharul Islam, Sohel Mridha, Mostak Ahmed, Azim Hossain, Md Ruhul Islam Sohel, Abdullah Al Mahmud Jishan, Md Sohel Ahmed, Sheikh Khayrul Kabir, Shobuj Hossain, Golam Tanvir, Md Hemayet, Ismail Hossain, Md Rezaul Karim, Muntajul Islam and Kazi Bahauddin Monir.

On March 25, a rally was held under the banner of Chatra Adhikar Parishad at the Motijheel Shapla Chattar to protest Modi’s visit.
When police tried to stop the activists from taking out a procession a clash between police and the protestors broke out.
Police fired teargas shells and sound grenades at the protestors while they threw stones at them.
Next day police filed a case at the Motijheel police station over the clash.

Communication on Chattogram-Khagrachhari road resumes after 3 days
Vehicular movement on Chattogram-Khagrachhari road, which remained suspended for the past three days due to blockade by Hefazat-e-Islami activists after a clash with police, resumed on Sunday night.
Hathazari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ruhul Amin said the vehicular movement on the road resumed around 10 pm after the Hefazat men withdrew the blockade following a fruitful meeting with the local administration.

Allama Azizul Haque Islamabadi, organising secretary of central unit of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, said “The local administration sat with us several times and after getting assurance the Madrasha student withdrew their blockade from the road after the end of our day long hartal.”
The nationwide dawn-to-dusk hartal, enforced by Hefajat-e-Islam, passed off on Sunday amid sporadic incidents of clashes, vandalism, arson attacks and roads blockades at different parts of the country.
Hefajat called the general strike protesting the killing of its activists and the "attack on them by ruling party men" Friday during anti-Modi demonstrations in Dhaka, Chattogram and other districts.

Road communications between the port city and other parts of the country remained suspended since Sunday noon as no long-route bus left Chattogram due to the hartal.
Some students of Al Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Moinul Islam Madrasah cut roads and created a number of holes on Chattogram-Khagrachhari highway early Sunday, disrupting communications on the road.

A clash involving Hefazat supporters and police left four people dead and at least 15 others injured at Hathazari in Chattogram on Friday.
The clash took place when policed opened fire after a group of protestors attacked Hathazari thana compound and Hathazari land office and set fire to a vehicle.

BCL men 'beat up' journalist for covering anti-Modi protest
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men Thursday "attacked" a journalist on the Dhaka University campus as he was covering a protest programme – staged against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bangladesh visit.
The victim was identified as Abid Hasan Russel, the Dhaka University correspondent of Bangla Tribune.
"People of Bangladesh," a citizens' platform, arranged a programme named "Jeyafat" at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) at around 5.30pm.

As the protesters were about the start their programme, some BCL leaders and activists beat them up and snatched their banners, the witnesses said.
Abid was at the spot to cover the programme. The BCL men swooped down on Abid as he started recording the video of the BCL attack on protesters.

The journalist is now undergoing treatment at Dhaka University Medical Centre.
BCL President Al Nahian Khan Joy and General Secretary Lekhak Bhattacharjee could not be reached for comments till the filing of this report.

Modi visit: Protesters clash with cops at Motijheel; 20 injured
At least 20 people, including cops, were injured in a clash between police and activists of Chhatra Odhikar Parishad as the student body staged demonstrations against Indian Prime Minister’s Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangladesh.
The leaders and activists of the student body brought out a procession from Bijoynagar’s Water Tank point at about 11:30 am and burned the effigy of Modi at Shapla Chattar around 12 pm.
At one stage, police charged batons, and fired teargas shells to disperse the protesters, triggering a chase-and-counter-chase between the protesters and police.

Anti-Modi protest: Chhatra Odhikar Parishad burns Indian PM's effigy
Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad Wednesday burned Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's effigy at Dhaka University campus protesting his upcoming visit to join the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh's Independence.
The student body brought out a black flag procession from the Central Shaheed Minar at around 4:30pm and paraded different roads of the campus. The procession ended at the TSC area.
Speaking at the rally, leaders and activists of the organisation labelled Modi as a "communal terrorist" and said a "terrorist" cannot join Bangladesh's Golden Jubilee celebration.
They also protested Tuesday's attack that Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men carried out on anti-Modi protesters at the campus and demanded immediate arrest of the attackers.

Chhatra Odhikar Parishad DU unit General Secretary Akram Hossain led the protest programme.
Bin Yeamin Molla, former Chhatra Odhikar Parishad Dhaka University unit president, said: "India helped us during our Liberation War of 1971. We are grateful to them but we cannot welcome a 'terrorist' like Modi in our great Golden Jubilee celebration."
"We cannot welcome a communal individual like him and will resist him by any means."
Calling on the BCL to stop violence, Yeamin said, "If you do not put an end to using force, students will not accept you anymore."

Akhter Hossain, DU unit president of the organisation and also former Dhaka University Central Students' Union leader said, "The people of Bangladeshi do not want Modi here. But the ruling party Awami League is desperate to have him in our Golden Jubilee celebration to cling on to state power."
"India is not behaving like a friendly country to us. Bangladesh citizens are being killed every day on the border. India has power and influence over us everywhere."
On Tuesday, at least 20 anti-Modi protesters from different left-leaning student bodies and five photojournalists got injured as some BCL men swooped down on a rally that was protesting Modi's visit to Bangladesh ahead of March 26.
