Husband killed ‘by wife’ in Khulna
A man was strangled to death allegedly by his wife at Jorshing village in Koyra upazila of Khulna on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Fazlu Gazi, 66, son of the late Fakir Gazi of the village.
According to locals , an altercation broke out between Fazlu Gazi and his second wife Khukumoni in the evening.
At one stage, she strangled him and fled the scene.
Locals later brought a village doctor, who declared him dead.
Sources said Fazlu Gazi married Khukumoni, a divorcee from neighbouring Angtihara village, after the death of his first wife.

Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Koyra Police Station Md Shah Alam said they received information about the incident but have yet to reach the spot.
“We are collecting information from various sources and trying to arrest the accused,” he said.

2 railway staff sued over Cumilla bus-train crash
A case has been filed against two railway staffers in connection with a bus-train collision that left 12 people dead in Cumilla.
Injured bus passenger Shefali Akter lodged the case with Laksam Railway Police Station, naming gateman Helal Uddin and wayman Mehedi Hasan as accused.
Shefali is the aunt of deceased Sohel Rana and a resident of Laksam.
Officer-in-Charge of Laksam railway outpost Jasim Uddin confirmed the matter, and sadi, "The case was filed under section 304(a) of the Penal Code over death caused by negligence. The complainant, Shefali Akter, was also on board the bus at the time of the accident. "
Sohel Rana, an expatriate in Malaysia, had returned home to Chuadanga to celebrate Eid.
He was travelling to his aunt’s house in Laksam on Eid day when he was killed in the accident at the Paduar Bazar level crossing.
His wife and daughter were also injured and are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka.
The accident occurred early on Eid morning when a Dhaka-bound train collided with a bus named ‘Mamun Special’ at the level crossing on the Dhaka-Chattogram railway line in the Paduar Bazar area.
At least eight others were seriously injured.
Following the incident, the two gatekeepers on duty at the crossing have been temporarily suspended.
Witnesses and injured passengers alleged that the gate was not closed in time as the train approached from Chattogram, leading to the deadly crash.

Housewife killed, 10 injured in BNP factional clash in Pabna
A housewife was killed and at least 10 persons were injured in an armed clash between two BNP-backed groups over local dominance in Sujanagar upazila of Pabna On Monday.The incident occurred around 8:00 am on Monday in Vitbila Westpara village of Manikhat Union. The deceased, China Khatun, 40, was the wife of Shukur Ali of the same village.Sujanagar Circle’s Assistant Superintendent of Police, Sadik Ahmed, confirmed the death to UNB.According to police and local sources, the conflict had been ongoing between one group group led by Rafiul Islam Raja, former president of the Hatkhali Union Chhatra Dal, and another led by Islam Pramanik from Vitbila village. Late Sunday night, a fight broke out between members of the two groups, escalating tensions.On Monday morning, members of the Islam Pramanik group gathered with sticks and rods in the area. In response, Raja’s group allegedly attacked them with weapons and gunfire, also vandalizing homes. China Khatun was shot dead on the spot, while 8–10 others were seriously injured and admitted to Sujanagar Upazila Health Complex and Pabna General Hospital.Islam Pramanik said his nephew, Farhad, a supporter of the Awami League, was beaten by Raja’s group the previous night. When he went to mediate, Raja’s group attacked him as well, he alleged.Later, the villagers decided to hold talks with elders to resolve the dispute. However, Raja’s group returned in the morning with weapons and attacked the villagers, leading to the fatality and injuries, according to Pramanik.Raja, when contacted, denied involvement and said he was attending a relative’s wedding at the time, claiming he had heard that China Khatun died of a stroke.Former ward member Habibur Rahman said both groups are BNP supporters and that the conflict had escalated after clashes between youths from the two areas.ASP Sadik Ahmed said police rushed to the scene to control the situation. The body was recovered and sent to Pabna General Hospital morgue for autopsy, and investigations into the motive and details of the attack are ongoing.

BNP leader injured in Ctg gun attack
A 42-year-old BNP leader suffered bullet injuries in a gun attack by some miscreants at Sarafbhata in Rangunia upazila of Chattogram district on Sunday night.
The injured were identified as Osman Goni, general secretary of Sarafbhata union unit BNP.
Belayet Hossain, assistant superintendent of Rangunia Circle, said 4-5 masked miscreants stormed into the house of Osman at Ganjam Ali Sarkar Bari around 8 pm.
Later, they stabbed and opened fire on Osman, leaving him injured.
Osman’s parents were injured as they tried to save their son.
Osman received bullet injuries on his hand and abdomen while Osman’s mother suffered bullet injuries on her leg during the attack.
Later, they were taken to Rangunia Upazila Health Complex from where Osman was taken to Evercare Hospital in Chattogram.
Police are trying to arrest the attackers.

Chief whip inaugurates canal re-excavation in Barguna
Chief Whip of the Parliament Md Nurul Islam on Sunday inaugurated the excavation works of the Kroke Canal in Barguna under a nationwide programme aimed at dredging and re-excavating rivers, canals and water bodies.
The initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to enhance environmental protection and strengthen climate resilience across the country, according to a press release.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Md Oli Ullah, a Member of Parliament elected from Islami Andolon Bangladesh, along with local public representatives, political leaders and residents.
According to officials, the programme aligns with a key electoral commitment of the current government led by Tarique Rahman, Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, who has pledged to implement large-scale excavation and restoration of water bodies nationwide.
The project is expected to improve water flow, mitigate waterlogging, and contribute to sustainable environmental management in vulnerable regions like Barguna.

State Minister Rajib Ahsan inaugurates canal re-excavation work in Jhalakathi
State Minister for Shipping and Bridges Md Rajib Ahsan on Sunday inaugurated the re-excavation of a canal in Rajapur upazila of Jhalakathi.
The inauguration took place in the Angaria area’s Tulatuli locality, where the state minister unveiled a plaque and symbolically began the excavation work.
The project, being implemented under the Small-Scale Water Resources Management Programme, will involve re-excavation of a 3.41-kilometre canal at a cost of Tk 1,11,14,367. The work will be carried out by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED).
Speaking at the event, speakers said the canal re-excavation would help ensure timely drainage of water, reducing waterlogging and protecting crops. It will also bring more land under cultivation and facilitate local boat movement.
They added that the project would support fish production, enable irrigation during the dry season for Aman and Boro rice cultivation, and help conserve water to protect seasonal crops from drought. The initiative is also expected to improve the natural environment, promote fish farming, allow tree plantation along canal banks, create employment opportunities and reduce poverty in the area.
Among others, Jhalakathi-1 MP Rafiq ul Islam Jamal, Deputy Commissioner Md Momin Uddin, Zila Parishad Administrator Advocate Shahadat Hossain and Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman spoke at the event.

Power worker killed in Gopalganj road crash
A power distribution employee was killed in a motorcycle accident in Gopalganj on Eid-ul-Fitr morning, leaving more than 100 people unable to offer Eid prayers as the village plunged into mourning.
The deceased was identified as Shariful Islam, 30, son of UP member Moksed Ali Sheikh of Tupuria village in Kotalipara upazila. He worked as a switchboard attendant at the Sadarpur office of West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited in Faridpur.
The accident occurred on Saturday morning in the Baikanthapur area along the Rajair–Kotalipara road while Shariful was returning home from his workplace in Faridpur to celebrate Eid with his family.
According to family sources, relatives had been waiting for him to join Eid prayers when they received news of the crash. Locals rescued him and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Preliminary reports suggest the accident occurred when Shariful lost control of his motorcycle on a rain-slick road and crashed into a roadside tree.
Sub-Inspector Sukumar Kundu of Kotalipara Police Station said police have received information about the accident, but no formal complaint has been filed so far.
The sudden death on Eid day has cast a pall of grief over the area.

Teen killed as motorcycle hits tree on Eid day in Chuadanga
An 18-year-old youth was killed and another injured when a speeding motorcycle lost control and hit a roadside tree in Chuadanga on Eid day
The deceased was identified as Suruj, son of Swapan, a resident of Islampara in Chuadanga Municipal area. The injured, Hridoy, hails from Shmashanpara in the same area.
The accident occurred in front of First Capital University on the Chuadanga–Almadanga road on Saturday afternoon.
Family members said the two youths were out for a ride when their speeding motorcycle went out of control near the university area and hit a tree, leaving both seriously injured on the spot.
Locals rescued them and rushed them to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared Suruj dead. Hridoy received primary treatment.
Dr Wahed Mahmud Robin, the on-duty physician at the hospital’s emergency department, said Suruj had died before being brought in.
Mizanur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chuadanga Sadar Police Station, said police were sent to the spot for further investigation.

Rival groups clash in Faridpur on Eid day; 10 injured
At least 10 people were injured in a clash between two rival groups in Faridpur’s Bhanga upazila on Eid day, police and local sources said.
The incident took place Saturday morning in Gopinathpur village under Hamirdi union, stemming from a long-standing dispute over local dominance.
According to witnesses, supporters of the two groups engaged in a series of chases and counter-chases from around 9:00am to 11:00am. During the clash, they used locally made weapons, including shields, spears and ramda.
Several houses, estimated between 10 and 12 were vandalised and looted during the violence.
Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Law enforcers also recovered a number of crude weapons from the spot.
Local sources said the conflict stemmed from a prolonged feud between Ismail Munshi and Chunnu Mia over establishing supremacy in the area.
Earlier, a clash between supporters of the two groups on Thursday night left at least 12 people injured.
Tension escalated again after Eid prayers on Saturday, triggering the fresh round of violence.
Officer-in-Charge of Bhanga Police Station Md Mizanur Rahman confirmed the incident, stating that the clash broke out following Eid prayers over the dominance dispute.
He said several houses were vandalised and looted, and a number of people were injured.
“Police have brought the situation under control, and legal action is underway,” the OC added.

2 Swechhasebak Dal men suspended after clash over beef price in Sylhet
Two members of Jatiotabadi Swechhasebak Dal have been expelled from the party following a clash over beef prices in Sylhet.
They are Aziz Khan Sajib, joint convener of the Metropolitan Swechhasebak Dal, and member Golam Rabbani.
The decision was taken by Central Committee President SM Jilani and General Secretary Rajib Ahsan, according to a press release by Joint Office Secretary Md. Osman Gani on Friday.
The incident occurred on Thursday night around 9:30 pm at the Medina Market area, where a scuffle broke out between leaders and activists of two BNP-affiliated groups over beef prices.
At least 10 people were injured. Police and army personnel rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control.
Sylhet Metropolitan Volunteer Party member secretary Afsar Khan said the central committee suspended the two members after verifying the facts of the clash.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Md. Manjurul Alam said quick action was taken to ensure public safety.
