ENG vs IND 5th Test 2022: England on verge of record run chase
India’s desire to clinch the Test series against England has been thwarted by a magnificent unbeaten 150*-run partnership between Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow for the fourth wicket in a chase of 378. England now only need 119 runs on the final day of the ENG vs IND fifth Test 2022 to tie the 5-match series 2-2. With 7 wickets in hand, the hosts are surely in the driving seat to clinch the fifth match at Edgbaston in Birmingham. If England win the contest, they will complete their highest ever run chase. Let’s take a look at the match scenario for the fifth Test IND vs ENG 2022.
England vs India 2022: Fifth Test match scenario
Jonny Bairstow is in the form of his life at the moment, scoring runs for fun. The aggressive-minded middle-order batter has already scored five Test centuries this year. With an unbeaten 72*-run in the second innings, Bairstow is nearing a sixth Test century of the year 2022 on Tuesday (July 5). He has formed an undefeated century stand with former skipper Joe Root for the fourth wicket, guiding England to 259/3 in a chase of 378 at the end of day-4.
Read ENG vs IND 2022: Bumrah breaks record as India dominate 5th Test
Joe Root has been in superb form too this year and will complete his fifth Test century if he can add 24 more runs to his 76* unbeaten knock. Besides, the 100-run partnership between Root and Bairstow is the 10th between them in the Test format.
Earlier, England had a perfect start in their chase of 378. The openers – Alex Lees (56) and Zak Crawley (46) – made a 103-run partnership before captain Bumrah struck first for India. In fact, India managed to pick up three wickets within a span of four overs and England were down to 109/3. However, a counter-attacking approach by Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow has taken the game away from India.
A confident and solid batting approach was expected from the Indian batters in the second innings as the Edgbaston pitch traditionally gets better for batting as the game progresses.

Besides, India had an advantage of 132 runs over England when they started their second innings. Except for Cheteshwar Pujara’s 66 and Rishabh Pant’s 57, India’s batting was once again disappointing. They were bowled out for 245 after the lunch break on day 4, giving England a 378-run target. English skipper Ben Stokes was the most successful bowler in this innings as he picked up 4 wickets.
England are eyeing a historic chase
England’s best-ever run chase in the Test format is 359 runs against Australia at Headingley, Leeds in 2019. They will break the record if they can win the ENG vs IND fifth Test 2022. On four occasions, England have successfully chased down 300+ scores, three of them against their arch-rivals Australia. Let’s take a look at England’s successful run chase in the fourth innings.

Bottom Line
Given the current state of the match, India realistically have little chance of defeating England with the sort of form they have been in since Ben Stokes took over as captain. England can collect the required 119 runs within the first session of day 5. Overall, the match is heavily favored by the hosts. On the other hand, the Indian campaign is hoping for some magical performances from their bowling unit to pull off a sensational victory in the ENG vs IND fifth Test 2022.

Bottom Line
Bangladesh’s most desired cricket format is ODI. They seem to know how to succeed in limited-overs cricket against any opposition in the world. Team Tigers' recent performance in the one-day format has been excellent. Therefore, Bangladesh players will likely do much better in the limited-overs series, despite the fact that they haven't been able to play to their full potential in the other two formats against the West Indian team on this trip. On the other side, West Indies will be aiming to maintain their recent success in the WI vs BAN ODI Series 2022.

BAN vs WI T20I Series 2022: Shakib Al Hasan Reaches Historic Landmark
Bangladesh lost the second match of the BAN vs WI T20I Series 2022 at Windsor Park, Dominica on Sunday (July 3). The West Indies have taken a 1-0 lead with this victory and they will clinch the series if they win the 3rd match at the Providence Stadium, Guyana, on Thursday (July 7). Except for Shakib Al Hasan’s historic landmark, Bangladesh had no mentionable achievement in this contest. How the Bangladesh team fared in the second match and Shakib Al Hasan’s new milestone are discussed in this article.
Bangladesh vs West Indies 2nd T20I: Match Report
On Sunday, Windsor Park hosted its first international match since the stadium was renovated following hurricane Maria damage in 2017. Before that, only two T20I matches were held at this venue and both were low-scoring affairs. Therefore, predicting how the pitch would behave during the contest was difficult.
However, the curator was determined to build a fresh wicket which would assist the batters to score runs. The effort to make a batting-friendly wicket was successful as more than 350 runs were scored during the contest.

Bangladesh had to chase 194 set by the Windies to clinch the contest. They were practically down and out in the run chase when 3 wickets were down at 23 in 3 overs. Shakib and Afif then tried to repair the innings with a 55-run stand between them on the fourth wicket. Afif Hossain played a 34-run knock before losing his wicket to Romario Shepherd. But by then Bangladesh already played 10.2 overs and they required 116 runs in 58 balls with 6 wickets in hand.
It was a testing time for the power hitters of Bangladesh to see whether they were capable enough to pull off such a target by maintaining a 200 strike rate. Expectedly, all the hitters failed big time in the contest, and Bangladesh finished their innings on 158/6. Among the power hitters, Nurul Hasan contributed 7 off 13, Mosaddek Hossain made 15 off 11 and Mahedi Hasan remained unbeaten with 5* off 2.
Shakib Al Hasan remained with 68* off 52 balls and became the second Bangladeshi batter after Mahmudullah Riyad to score 2,000 T20I runs.

Earlier, West Indies scored 193/5 in their allotted 20 overs after opting to bat first. Opener Brandon King played a 57-run knock and made an important 74-run stand with captain Nicholas Pooran (34) for the third wicket. Later, Rovman Powell’s whirlwind 61 off 28 balls knock guided the Windies to score close to 200 in their innings. Pacer Shoriful Islam picked up the highest 2 wickets for Bangladesh.
The first cricketer to amass 2000 runs and 100 wickets in T20I format
Shakib Al Hasan performed consistently despite Bangladesh's underwhelming effort in the second game of the BAN vs WI T20I Series 2022. He took a wicket and scored a half-century with the bat.
Shakib completed his 2,000 T20I runs in the match and became the first player in history to amass 2k runs and snatch 100 wickets in the format. This is such a unique feat by the ace all-rounder. Only Pakistan’s Mohammad Hafez has 2,000 runs and 50 wickets in the T20 format. Let’s take a look at the seven players with a minimum of 1,000 runs and 50 T20I wickets.

Aftermath
The Bangladesh team’s overall performance in the second match of the BAN vs WI T20I Series 2022 wasn’t convincing. They couldn’t create a winning situation in any moment of the contest as the Windies deservedly won the game with a complete domination. Bangladesh’s approach should be more aggressive in the third match in order to tie this Twenty20 series.
As for Shakib Al Hasan, the match was a historic occasion for the ace all-rounder. Shakib adds to his legacy by becoming the first cricketer in T20I history to score 2000 runs and take 100 wickets.

ENG vs IND 2022: Bumrah breaks record as India dominate 5th Test
India have shown an invigorated performance under the leadership of pacer Jasprit Bumrah in the ENG vs IND 2022 fifth Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham. India are 332 runs ahead of England in the first innings, as the hosts have made 84/5 at the end of day 2. The second day was a nightmare for English pacer Stuart Broad as he conceded 35 runs in an over and became the holder of the costliest over ever in the Test format. India’s captain Jasprit Bumrah ran riot over Stuart Broad in that particular over, who also became the highest scorer (31) for any debutant captain batting at no.10. The fifth match scenario is discussed in this article.
England vs India fifth Test: The match scenario
English captain Ben Stokes opted to field first after winning the toss in the ENG vs IND 2022 fifth Test. India’s regular Test captain, Rohit Sharma, has been unable to participate because of COVID-19 positive syndrome. In place of him, the team management handed over the captaincy to Jasprit Bumrah. Shubman Gill replaced Rohit and opened the innings with the experienced Cheteshwar Pujara.
England’s plan to put pressure on India’s batting line-up early in the innings materialized as they picked up five wickets for only 98 runs. However, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja’s 222-run partnership for the sixth wicket discarded England’s early good work and put pressure on the home team bowlers. Pant made a swashbuckling effort with the bat by scoring 146 runs in just 111 deliveries, which included 4 sixes and 19 boundaries. Jadeja, on the other hand, scored 104 runs.

England were hoping to wrap up India’s first innings after Joe Root broke the partnership in the third session of day 1. However, captain Jasprit Bumrah’s quick-fire 31 off 16 guided India to score 416 in the first innings. Veteran James Anderson showed yet another master-class performance with the ball as he picked up five wickets in the innings.
In reply, England had a terrible start to their innings, losing 5 wickets and making 84 runs at the end of day 2. Jonny Bairstow (12) and captain Ben Stokes remained unbeaten at the crease. England will be hoping these two batsmen continue to develop a strong stand in the middle and stay firm in the contest. Skipper Jasprit Bumrah had a brilliant spell on day 2 as he picked up three wickets for India.
A look back at the most expensive overs in Test cricket
One of the major highlights of day 2 was Stuart Broad’s one embarrassing over to Jasprit Bumrah. It was the 84th over of India’s first innings and the bowler was Stuart Broad. Bumrah took on the English legend and hammered 29 runs with the bat. Six more runs were also scored thanks to extras. Overall, 35 runs were scored, which was the most expensive over in Test cricket history.

The previous record-holders for the most runs scored with the bat in an over were Brian Lara in 2003 and Bailey in 2013, both of whom scored 28 runs in an over. Bumrah set a new record for himself by scoring 29 runs. Jasprit Bumrah finished his innings with an undefeated 31* and became the debutant skipper with the most runs while batting at 10.

WI vs BAN: Rain-hit T20I series opener washes away
The maiden T20I of the three-match series between the hosts West Indies and Bangladesh has been washed away due to rain on Saturday night at Windsor Park, Roseau, Dominica.
The toss was delayed by more than an hour due to the rain. The hosts won the toss and sent Bangladesh to bat first under the overcast condition. Due to the rain, the match was reduced to a 16-over game.

Bangladesh got a new opening pair in this match in Anamul Haque and Munim Shahriar. But they failed to impress. Munim fell victim to Akeal Hosein off the third ball of the innings scoring only two runs.
Bangladeshi batters took too many risks aiming to score faster and pose a challenging total to the hosts. But the strategy didn't work well as the tourists lost quick wickets regularly.
They were down to 77 for seven from 36 for one. Apart from Anamul (16), Shakib Al Hasan (29) and Nurul Hasan Sohan (25), none was able to reach a double-digit total against the quality bowling attack of the hosts.
All off Liton Das (9 off 14), captain Mahmudullah Riyad (8 off 13) and Afif Hossain (0 off 2) have failed to settle in the wicket.
The rain turned heavier after Bangladesh scored 105 for eight in 13 overs, and the umpires called the match off.

Twenty20 World Cup 2022: 5 issues Bangladesh team should address
Australia will host the eighth edition of the T20 format world cup in the October-November window. Like the previous edition, the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup 2022 will also feature 16 teams to compete for the trophy. Bangladesh will directly play in the Super 12 round as they don’t have to take part in the qualifier this time. They will face heavyweights India, Pakistan, and South Africa in the Super 12 phase in their quest for a semi-final berth. Considering the Australian conditions, the tournament will be a major challenge for the current Bangladesh T20 side. They need to fix some issues before heading to Australia to take part in the mega event.
Things Bangladesh T20 team needs to improve prior to the 2022 T20 World Cup
The Bangladesh team will take part in the Twenty20 World Cup 2022 under the leadership of Mahmudullah Riyad. With a little over three months left before the main event eventually kicks off, the Tigers T20 side needs to develop some areas in order to perform better against the strong opposition in the Super 12 round. The areas where the Bangladesh T20 team needs to improve are discussed in this article.
Finding an ideal opening pair
One of Bangladesh's main problems across all formats is finding a suitable opening pair. In the ODI format, Tamim Iqbal and Litton Das have given Bangladesh a solid opening slot. Together they have scored 1,254 runs in 32 innings with an average of 41.80. In contrast, Bangladesh’s opening pair scenario in the Twenty20 format has been substandard in recent times.
Read BAN vs WI 2022: Bangladesh aim for strong comeback in T20I series
By looking at Bangladesh’s opening pair history in the T20 format, it is very much apparent that the team has never found a stable pair in the opening slot. Bangladesh have so far played 125 T20I matches. Litton Das-Mohammad Naim and Tamim Iqbal-Soumya Sarkar have opened the most innings (17) for the Tigers.

None of the opening pairs have a better than a 30 average in batting (at least 10 innings). So, Bangladesh need a viable and aggressive-minded opening pair who can give a solid platform in the innings.
The Tigers team management may pick Munim Shahriar and Anamul Haque to open the innings for Bangladesh in the West Indies series. Both the batters have a reputation for being aggressive. The pair can open the innings for Bangladesh in the forthcoming World Cup if they perform well in the West Indies series as well as the remaining T20I fixtures before the main event. Otherwise, Mohammad Naim, Litton Das, and others can be considered to fill the opening slot.
Boosting the pacers' efficiency
405 out of 601 wickets have been taken by the fast bowlers in the T20Is in Australia so far. This stat suggests how dominating and effective fast bowlers are in this region. Therefore, Bangladesh’s pacers need to be well-equipped with the Australian conditions so that they can thrive during the world cup.
Read Head, Lyon give Australia 10-wicket win over Sri Lanka
Traditionally, the spinners have had the most success in bowling, but as per stats, the fast bowlers have performed equally well in the T20 format. The pacers have taken 343 T20I wickets, while the spinners have scalped 344. The recent performance has also indicated that the fast bowlers are equally good as the spinners of Bangladesh. Both pace department and spin department have picked up 86 wickets each since January 2021.
With Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, and Shoriful Islam in the squad, Bangladesh’s pace department is better than ever. They just need to be well versed in the conditions in Australia. Thankfully, the tri-nation series in New Zealand just before the 2022 T20 World Cup will help the quick bowlers to be more well-informed about the conditions.
Learning the batting technique on a fast, bouncy pitch
Bangladesh batters have a problem thriving on fast and bouncy tracks. In Australia, they will face some of the fastest bowlers in the world right now. Facing these fearsome quick bowlers will be a real challenge for the tigers. They have to overcome their inner fear and learn the technique of dealing with the fast bowlers on bouncy wickets.

In the Oceania region, Bangladesh have only played against New Zealand in the T20 format. In seven matches, only two batters have scored fifties. This stat indicates how difficult it will be for Bangladeshi batters to score runs in those conditions. Generating some real power hitters
A team needs two or three proper hard-hitters in the middle-order in the T20 format so that they can accelerate the run rates in the death overs. Bangladesh, unfortunately, don’t have any proper power hitters in the middle-order.
Read Shakib uncertain for West Indies ODIs
Captain Mahmudullah Riyad is arguably the best hitter among the middle-order batters. Besides him, Nurul Hasan Sohan, Shamim Hossain, Afif Hossain, Mosaddek Hossain, Soumya Sarkar, Mahadi Hasan, and a host of other notable players have been tested, but none of them has shown consistency on the international stage.
Those who bat fifth through eighth are mostly expected to play power hitting roles for the team. Among the active Bangladeshi players, those who have batted in those positions, none of them has a batting strike rate of 120 or more (at least 5 innings). Therefore, Bangladesh need to develop at least two genuine power hitters prior to the world cup in Australia.

Overall improvement in fielding
Bangladesh have improved their ground fielding in recent times. But they still have issues with consistency and catching. Bangladesh's team has to be energetic and focused while fielding on the ground. Attention to details is one of the key areas the players have to improve prior to the ICC Twenty20 World Cup 2022. A good fielding side can inspire the bowlers to give their best in the contest. So, the improvement of the fielding of each player is a must in order to improve the overall team’s performance.

Aftermath
Bangladesh do have some talented players in their T20 squad, but they need proper guidance and training to showcase their talents on the international stage. Playing against big opposition like India, Pakistan, and South Africa would be a real challenge for the Bangladesh team during the Twenty20 World Cup 2022. As per the current scenario of the team, Bangladesh don’t have any realistic chances against this opposition. But the Tigers have to win one or two matches against these teams if they do want to advance to the knockout round. Bangladesh will be able to put up a strong display against stronger opponents if they improve the aforementioned points prior to the mega ICC event.

The third and last match of the series is scheduled to be played on July 7 at the Providence Stadium, Guyana.
The members of the Bangladesh limited-overs team had to go through a perilous sea journey to reach Dominica. At least three members of the team suffered seasickness and motion sickness during the five-hour ferry journey across the Atlantic.

Head, Lyon give Australia 10-wicket win over Sri Lanka
Spinners Travis Head and Nathan Lyon took four wickets each to give Australia a 10-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the first session on the third day of the first cricket test on Friday.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Sri Lanka made 212 in its first innings.
Australia was still batting in its first innings when play resumed on the third day on 313-8 and fast bowler Asitha Fernando bowled Pat Cummins (26) with a yorker. Fernando later sent an in-swinger to bowl Mitchell Swepson (1) to end Australia’s first innings at 321, conceding a 109-run first-innings lead.
Sri Lanka made only 113 runs in its second innings leaving Australia five runs to win and David Warner finished the match in four balls.
Head, bowling his part-time off spinners, took four wickets in the space of 17 deliveries to return 4-10. He had not taken a wicket in the 26 previous test matches.
Lyon continued his good form, taking 5-90 in the first innings to return 4-31 in the second.
Sri Lanka started its second innings briskly with the intention of wiping out the deficit quickly on a pitch that helped spin bowlers.

Sri Lankan openers Dimuth Karunaratne and Pathum Nissanka scored 17 runs off the first over bowled by Mitchell Starc, including four boundaries.
But Lyon ended the promising stand at 37 having Karunaratne (23) caught by wicketkeeper Alex Carey. Two runs later leg spinner Mitchell Swepson trapped Nissaka (14) lbw, a decision the batsman reviewed unsuccessfully.
Kusal Mendis and Oshada Fernando, who came into the match as a replacement for Angelo Mathews who had tested positive for COVID-19 earlier in the day, shared 20 runs for the third wicket before Mendis top-edged a sweep for a catch to Swepson at square leg.
Fernando (12) edged Swepson to Steve Smith at slip to leave Sri Lanka 63-4.
Dhananjaya de Silva and Dinesh Chandimal put on 32 runs for the fifth wicket but Head took two wickets in his first over which virtually sealed the result. Head bowled Chandimal (13) with a sharp-turning delivery and two balls later trapped Dhananjaya de Silva lbw.

BAN vs WI 2022: Bangladesh aim for strong comeback in T20I series
The first match of the BAN vs WI 2022 Twenty20 series will be held on Saturday (July 2) at the Windsor Park ground. The match will start at 11.30 p.m. (Bangladesh Standard Time). Bangladesh have to regroup themselves after a demoralizing display in the Test series against the Windies. There will be some changes in the Bangladesh T20 setup as veteran Mahmudullah Riyad will lead the side. On the other hand, Nicholas Pooran will lead the West Indies side. The Caribbean side has also made some changes to their T20 squad. The first T20I match preview is discussed in this article.
West Indies vs Bangladesh Series 2022: First T20I Match Preview
The series is very important for both the teams in order to identify the best possible squads for the upcoming 2022 ICC Twenty20 World Cup. Bangladesh have never played at Windsor Park, the venue of the first match. Oppositely, West Indies have played two matches and won one at this ground. Overall, Bangladesh have faced the Caribbean team three times in the West Indies, but they have failed to win any of those games.

Bangladesh
Bangladesh’s major concern at the moment is their batting. The team management is searching for an answer to a few questions regarding batting, such as: will the batters continue to struggle in the T20 format? Will they find a viable opening pair for the T20? Who will play the anchor role in the absence of Tamim Iqbal? And what’s the solution to power-hitting in the middle-order? In other words, the batters have to step up and show more responsibility in their approach.
Munim Shahriar and Anamul Haque are likely to open the innings as Mohammad Naim has been out of form for quite some time. For Anamul Haque, it will be another opportunity for him to cement his place in the Bangladesh squad. He should seize the chance by showing his true potential during the 3-match series. Besides, Litton, Shakib, and Mahmudullah will have to play a big role in the middle overs.
In bowling, Mustafizur’s cutter will cause problems for the Caribbean batters. Taskin and Shoriful have been brilliant for Bangladesh since 2021. Besides, left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed could give a breakthrough at the start of the innings. Bangladesh’s bowling department seems more equipped than batting. As a result, they may have to undertake a little more responsibility in the game.

West Indies
The West Indies last played a T20I series in February against India. Kieron Pollard announced his retirement after the series and Nicholas Pooran was appointed as the new captain of the West Indies T20 side. There are some changes in their squad too, as household names like Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, DJ Bravo, Sunil Narine, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, none of them are in the squad.

The West Indies Cricket Board is looking to build a new squad for their Twenty20 side. In the current setup, Brandon King, Kyle Mayers, Nicholas Pooran, and Rovman Powell will be key in the batting line-ups. In bowling, Romario Shepherd and Alzarri Joseph will likely lead the pace bowling unit. They also have Akeal Hosein and Hayden Walsh, both very good spinners.
Probable Playing XI (West Indies)
Top-Order: Brandon King, Shamarh Brooks, Kyle Mayers;
Middle-Order: Nicholas Pooran (wicket-keeper & captain), Rovman Powell, Odean Smith, Romario Shepherd, Keemo Paul;

Weather Forecast and Pitch Report
The first match will be held on Saturday, and unfortunately, there is a strong chance of rain on that particular day in Dominica. There have only been two games played here thus far. According to the Windsor Park ground statistics, pace bowlers who have the ability to swing can thrive in the power play. It has been a low-scoring venue so far, but this statistic could change in the future.

Bottom Line
Facing the West Indies in their own backyard will be a real challenge for Bangladesh. Team Tigers can take inspiration from their 2-1 series victory over the Caribbean side in 2018. Though the majority of the players in the 2018 Bangladesh squad will not be seen in the upcoming BAN vs WI 2022 T20I series. It’s a challenge captain Mahmudullah and the youngsters will have to take during the contest.
On the other hand, the West Indies will miss some key players, and a new-look squad will face Bangladesh. The opening game of the series will give an idea of which team will have an advantage in the following two matches. Therefore, both sides will try to outperform each other in the first T20I.

Mehidy, Taskin added to Bangladesh T20I squad
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has called up off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz and right-arm pacer Taskin Ahmed to the T20I squad of Bangladesh for the three-match series against the West Indies.
The T20I series will kick off on July 2 in Dominica.
Mehidy has not played a T20I match since December 2018, but he has been a regular part in Tests and ODIs for Bangladesh.
Taskin, meanwhile, has made a full recovery from an injury sustained in South Africa in April this year and makes his return to international cricket.
The Bangladesh T20I squad, originally named for the series, has been hit hard by injuries with pacer Shohidul Islam pulling out prior to the tour. Batter Yasir Ali was forced to return home from Antigua with a back injury while allrounder Mohammad Saifuddin was withdrawn as he is still short of optimal fitness for international cricket.
Ahead of the T20I series, Bangladesh played a two-match Test series against the hosts that the Tigers lost 0-2 without offering a real challenge.
The first and second T20I of the series will take place at Windsor Park, Roseau, Dominica on July 2 and 3 respectively while the third and final T20I will be played on July 7 at Providence Stadium, Guyana.
