Victory Day observed in Mexico with due respect
Bangladesh Embassy in Mexico City observed the Victory Day 2025 with due respect and solemnity on Tuesday.
A large number of Bangladeshi expatriates and distinguished members of the local Bangladeshi community participated in events organised by the embassy.
The day-long programme began with the hoisting of the national flag at the embassy premises by Ambassador Mushfiqul Fazal Ansarey.
Followed by this, a special discussion session was held at the embassy auditorium where he paid tribute to all martyrs of the Liberation War, including the martyred President Ziaur Rahman and the nation’s valiant freedom fighters, while highlighting the historic significance of Victory Day.
Addressing the event, Ansarey said, “On this glorious day in 1971, our cherished independence was won through the blood of countless martyrs. Their sacrifice, bravery, and unparalleled courage will remain immortal in the history of our nation.”
He said, “Our freedom was not presented on a silver platter; it had to be seized through a bloody struggle, immense sacrifice, and selflessness. We saw this spirit of defiance continue during the July mass uprising, when fearless young people stood up against oppression, injustice, and tyranny.”
The ambassador emphasised that freedom of expression must remain unrestricted. However, it cannot be misused to rehabilitate democratic killers, murderers, or looters, underlining the importance of unity in preventing the resurgence of fascist forces.

Indian visa application centre in Dhaka to close at 2pm Wednesday
In view of the ongoing security situation, the Indian Visa Application Centre in Dhaka will close at 2:00 pm on Wednesday.
"In view of the on-going security situation, we wish to bring to your kind notice that IVAC JFP Dhaka will be closed at 2 PM today," said a notification issued by the IVAC in Dhaka.
All applicants with appointment slots scheduled for submission today will be rescheduled for a later date.
The Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC) at Jamuna Future Park (JFP) in Dhaka is the main, integrated center for all Indian visa services in the capital.

Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu observes Victory Day with due respect
Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu observed the Victory Day-2025 in a befitting manner on Tuesday, with a large Bangladeshis attending the event.
The Bangladesh mission hosted a very colorful and festive programme on its premises to celebrate the great day with due solemnity and fervor.
Ambassador Md. Golam Sarwar, the Secretary General of SAARC Secretariat, Bangladeshi officials working at the SAARC Secretariat; expatriate nationals working in various regional organizations in Nepal; officials from Biman Bangladesh Airlines Nepal Office; members from the Bangladesh community in Nepal; distinguished personalities and business persons from Nepal attended the event.
In addition, players and officials of a Bangladeshi women’s football club (Nasrin Sports Academy) currently visiting Kathmandu also joined the event to celebrate the occasion.
The day’s programme began at 10 am on the Embassy’s premises with the hoisting of the national flag and playing of the national anthem.
A one-minute silence was observed in remembrance of the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the nine-month long Liberation War.
A special prayer was also offered seeking salvation and eternal peace for the departed souls of the martyrs of 1971 war as well martyrs of the July–August Mass-uprising 2024.
Messages on the significance of the Day from President, Chief Adviser and Adviser for Foreign Affairs were read out.
The event featured the cultural programme, in which students from a local art school in Kathmandu performed dances in tune with Bangla and Nepali music and also rendered Bangla and Nepali songs.
Besides, the performance by Saraswati Khatri, a vocalist of Nepal’s Sur Sudha Music Group, added a special dimension to the programme through her presentation of few Bangla and Nepali songs.
Golam Sarwar focused on the significance of the victory day while calling upon the audience to uphold the spirit of the Great Liberation War.
He further highlighted the urgency for working collectively towards realising the opportunity created through the July–August mass uprising to build a discrimination-free and inclusive Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Ambassador to Nepal Md. Shafiqur Rahman paid profound homage and tribute to the valiant martyrs, the wounded freedom fighters in the liberation war of 1971 whose sacrifices made the country’s independence possible.
He also paid deep respect and tribute to the martyrs of July Mass Uprising, recalling the long-drawn struggle and fight of the freedom fighters against oppression, injustice, discrimination and unfairness in 1971.
Shafiqur said that the July Mass-Uprising added a new dimension towards achieving the unfulfilled dream of the liberation war by providing the opportunity to build a fair, just corruption-free and inclusive Bangladesh 2.0, a dream envisioned by the valiant freedom-fighters of the Liberation War.
Drawing an analogy on the unique spirit of the Liberation War and July Mass-uprising 2024, he underlined that as the valiant freedom fighters laid down their invaluable lives for the cause of freedom leading to the emergence of Bangladesh, a new state free from political, social and economic discrimination, the youths of the new generation in 2024 made supreme sacrifices to rebuild the country based on the values of democracy, equity, fairness and justice.
Delivering the concluding remarks, he urged all expatriate Bangladeshis to work from their respective positions towards building a new Bangladesh 2.0 in the spirit of the Liberation War and the Mass-uprising 2024.
The programme ended with a luncheon hosted in honor of the guests present.

Dhaka-Delhi ties deep, multi-layered; future to be shaped by trust, dignity, mutual respect: Envoy
Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Riaz Hamidullah has emphasised that Bangladesh-India relations are “deep and multi-layered,” and called for a future shaped by trust, dignity and mutual respect.
He made the remarks while commemorating the 54th Victory Day of Bangladesh at the Mission’s Maitri Hall.
The Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on Tuesday commemorated the 54th Victory Day of Bangladesh at the Mission’s Maitri Hall, bringing together a large and distinguished gathering of senior Indian officials, war veterans, cultural figures, members of civil society and friends of Bangladesh.
Welcoming the guests, Hamidullah expressed his appreciation for the strong presence and solidarity, saying that “This is a day of sadness for many, and of joy for many more. We are here to celebrate, to remember, to acknowledge, and reflect on the future.”
The High Commissioner paid homage to the martyrs of the Liberation War, including freedom fighters and victims of atrocities, said the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi.
“Our tribute to all the Freedom Fighters (muktijoddhya), including Biranganas,” he said, recalling the immense sacrifices made in 1971. He acknowledged India’s role, recalling the 1,668 Indian soldiers who made supreme sacrifice on Bangladesh soil.

EU deploys election observation mission to Bangladesh
In response to a formal invitation by Bangladesh authorities, the High Representative/Vice President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas has decided to deploy an EU Election Observation Mission (EOM) to observe the parliamentary elections scheduled for 12 February 2026.
The High Representative has appointed Ivars Ijabs, Member of the European Parliament, as its chief observer.

"I am honoured to lead this EU Election Observation Mission to Bangladesh, which will deliver an independent and impartial assessment of the electoral process," Chief Observer Ijabs said on Tuesday.

Victory Day celebrated in Tokyo
The Embassy of Bangladesh in Tokyo celebrated the Great Victory Day 2025 with due solemnity and a series of commemorative programmes.
The day’s activities began at the Embassy premises with the hoisting of the National Flag, accompanied by the playing of the National Anthem in the morning.
The flag was hoisted by the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Japan, Md. Daud Ali, in the presence of Bangladeshi expatriates, officials, and staff of the Embassy.
In the afternoon, the Embassy hosted a reception attended by members of the Bangladeshi community in Japan. On the occasion, messages from the President, the Chief Adviser, and the Adviser on Foreign Affairs were read out.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Md. Daud Ali paid tribute to the valiant martyrs of the Great Liberation War.
He also expressed profound respect for the martyrs of the July 2024 mass uprising and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

India greets Bangladesh on Victory Day
India has greeted Bangladesh and people of the country on the occasion of Victory Day being celebrated across the country on Tuesday.
Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishnkar conveyed the greetings to Bangladesh and its people.
"Greetings to Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain, the Interim Government and the people of Bangladesh on Bijoy Dibosh," Dr Jaishankar said in a message from his verified X handle on Tuesday.
Like every year, the armies of Bangladesh and India have invited each other’s war veterans and serving officers to participate in the Victory Day celebrations on December 16, marking the end of Bangladesh’s Liberation War in 1971 with the surrender of the Pakistani forces.
Eight Indian war veterans and two serving officers of the Indian Armed Forces reached Dhaka on Monday to participate in Bangladesh’s Victory Day celebrations.
Similarly, eight valiant freedom fighters and two serving officers of the Bangladesh Armed Forces went to India on Sunday to participate in the celebrations at Kolkata, said the Indian High Commission in Dhaka on Monday.
These exchange visits provide a platform for Bangladeshi freedom fighters and Indian war veterans to celebrate the unique friendship between the two countries and to renew memories of the Liberation War, which epitomises the shared sacrifices of the armed forces of Bangladesh and India for Bangladesh’s freedom from occupation, oppression and mass atrocities, the Indian HC said.

Ambassador Yao inspects Bangladesh-China Friendship Hall at DU
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, on Monday jointly inspected the China-Bangladesh Friendship Residential Hall at the University of Dhaka, accompanied by the Chinese feasibility study expert team.
Ambassador Yao said educational cooperation is one of the most fundamental areas of Bangladesh-China relations.
He said China stands ready to work with Bangladesh to advance this student-centered, women-focused livelihood project.
"It will play the role of a model project for China-Bangladesh educational cooperation," he said.
Continued to expand support for Rohingyas: Ambassador Yao
Prof. Niaz Ahmed Khan expressed gratitude for China’s support and assistance in the field of Bangladeshi education.
He hoped that this project would serve as a new starting point for further deepening practical cooperation with China in talent cultivation, scientific research collaboration, and youth exchanges, ensuring that the friendship between Bangladesh and China is passed on from generation to generation.
