He read out his election manifesto at the Awami League central office in the city at noon.
The city has huge potentials to be developed as a tourist destination, said Taposh adding that the 400-year-old city has its own tradition and archeological importance.
“If elected, I’ll build the Dhaka central jail area as a heritage site. I’ll construct a museum and an art gallery there in coordination of all, and will preserve and restore the traditional features of Old Dhaka under a master plan.”
Taposh said he will take steps for the development of slums in the city and providing housing facilities for the workers engaged in cleaning.
The AL mayoral candidate said all the encroached canals will be reclaimed and steps will be taken for their beautification, improvement in waste management, construction of necessary drains, preservation of water bodies and ending waterlogging, he said.
Taposh said trees will be planted on the banks of the Buriganga and Shitalakshya rivers while recreation centres will be set up to increase beauty of the city.
The Awami League mayoral candidate said once there was Panchayat system in Dhaka to deal with crimes that cause moral degredation, drug abuse and juvenile delinquency. “I’ll restore the system for the elimination of drug abuse, gambling, juvenile delinquency, social and moral degradation to establish a good city.”
Dhaka South City Corporation will be the first corruption-free autonomous organisation in Bangladesh, he said.
He also assured the city dwellers of improving fire extinguishing system through establishing fire hydrant mechanism in addition to taking steps to ease entrance of firefighting vehicles in different areas.
E-libraries will be established under the management of the city corporation apart from installing CCTV cameras and free WiFi zones at various places of the city, he said.
AL Advisory Council member Amir Hossain Amu, MP, Mozaffar Hossain Paltu, Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Organising Secretary BM Mozammel, Afzal Hossain, Relief and Disaster Management Affairs Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, Science and Technology Affairs Secretary Abdus Sabur, Deputy Publicity Secretary Aminul Islam Amin, Central Member Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya and Mustafa Jalal Mohiuddin were present.
Elections to both the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) will be held on February 1.
