Xiaomi POCO M3: Review of Key Features
Design and Build Quality
POCO M3 will steal your attention at first sight. Certainly, it is one of the best good looking official phones of 2020. The rear panel design of POCO m3 will remind you of the look of the OnePlus 8T Cyber Edition. Though M3 bears a plastic back, its fingerprint-proof leather finished texture offers a cozy feel. The body-frame of this POCO phone is built with plastic. Its display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
On the right side of this phone, you will find the home button and the volume rocker. On the left side, it has a SIM card slot. There is a 3.5mm headphone jack and a speaker on the upper edge. On the bottom edge, M3 bears a USB Type-C port, speaker grill, and a primary microphone. On the front screen, M3 has a Dot Drop style selfie camera. These days, this design looks a bit weird.
The home button serves as a fingerprint scanner that serves accurately. Thanks to POCO for offering stereo speakers in M3 Smartphone. The sound quality of its stereo-speakers and earpieces is satisfactory. However, you may experience some distortions, if the loudspeaker runs at a full volume.

Display
POCO M3 is provided with a 6.53-inch IPS LCD panel display with about 83.4% screen-to-body ratio. The bezels are average. Here you get a Full HD plus display featuring 1080 x 2340 pixels, 19.5:9 ratios, and 395 PPI densities. The color vibrancy is decent. The touch response of the display works fine. Both the display size and quality are great for attaining virtual meetings/classes and enjoying movies/videos.
POCO M3 has a 60Hz refresh rate, which is a pity. As many similarly priced competitors, like realme C17, are offering a 90Hz refresh rate nowadays. The brightness level of M3’s display is not so impressive if operated under direct sunlight.

Rear Cameras
On the rear side, POCO M3 has trendy camera housing bearing triple cameras with a flashlight. There is a 48 MP main camera with f/1.8 aperture, a 2MP (f/2.4) macro camera, and a 2MP (f/2.4) depth camera. It is very disappointing that M3 doesn’t come with a wide-angle camera which could be more helpful than the macro or depth sensors.
The picture quality, dynamic range, and sharpness of its 48MP main rear camera are decent in ample sunlight. The color punches are close to natural. In the ‘Night mode,’ you can capture average quality photos. Its 2MP depth sensor struggles in capturing photos with proper edge detection and sharpness. The 2MP Macro shooter does an average performance in proper sunlight. But in low light conditions, the images may dissatisfy you.
You can shoot a maximum of 1080p footage at 30fps with the main rear camera of POCO M3. The quality of video footage is quite average.

Front Camera
On the front side, POCO M3 holds an 8MP selfie camera with an aperture of f/2.1. This sensor smoothes and brightens the skin tone of the main subject. However, a bit more sharpness and better dynamic range can be expected from the selfie camera in this budget. Like the rear camera, the front sensor can shoot 1080p footage at 30fps.

Performance
POCO M3 comes in two variants. The basic variant features 4GB RAM with 64GB internal storage supported by UFS 2.1 technology. If you need more internal storage, pick the upper variant offering 4GB RAM with 128GB internal storage blessed with UFS 2.2 data transfer technology.
POCO M3’s octa-core processor has one cluster of four Kryo 260 Gold cores with 2.0 GHz clock speed and another cluster of four Kryo 260 Silver cores with 1.8 GHz clock speed. Its CPU is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon’s 662 chipset built on 11-micron architecture. Its graphics unit sports Adreno 610 GPU. POCO M3 runs on MIUI 12 operating system based on Android 10.
For gaming purposes, POCO M3 is not recommended. The 2D games are playable on this phone, but it is not efficient in running the virtual 3D multiplayer games. The Asphalt 9 software doesn’t run on this phone. You can play PUBG at ‘Smooth’ graphics with a ‘high’ refresh rate or ‘Balanced’ graphics with a ‘Medium’ refresh rate. The Call of Duty (COD) runs comparatively smoothly here. However, you may still face lags and heating issues in M3.
For regular day to day usage, POCO M3 performs average. For multitasking, this phone struggles a bit. For instance, you may experience some delays in opening and closing different apps.
We have seen that the Snapdragon 662 processor backed up with UFS data transfer technology did a good job in other similarly priced phones, like Moto G9 Play, etc. It seems that in POCO M3, the latest MIUI12 version is not properly functioning with the SD 662 processor. However, these problems might reduce after updates.

Battery
POCO deserves applause for providing a 6000 mAh non-removable Li-Po battery in its latest M3 Smartphone. By virtue of brilliant weight-balance design, this phone neither looks bulky nor feels heavy even if carrying a big battery inside. On moderate use, you can get almost two days back up on this phone. What is more? POCO M3 is blessed with an 18W fast charging adapter which will reduce the charging time significantly.

Verdict
POCO M3 offers a bunch of amazing features like a Full HD+ display, a 48MP prime camera, a big battery of 6000mAh, 18W fast charging capacity, trendy design, stereo speaker, standard RAM of 4GB, adequate internal storage with UFS data transfer technology. However, it has some drawbacks like a low refresh rate of 60Hz, IPS LCD panel, lack of Wide angle camera, etc,
Provision of the metal frame, AMOLED display, Corning glass-5 protection, higher refresh rate, better processor, rear wide-angle camera, and a more powerful front camera would have been better. But considering the price tag, the design, specs, and build quality of POCO M3 is quite acceptable.
